American History: Where does it begin? Right now!!! This course starts with the present and moves backwards. Units of study include crisis and challenges: present-1974; postwar problems and prosperity 1946-60; US in the turbulent world 1948-62; good times/bad times 1920-61; changes abroad and at home 1914-54; transformation of the US 1848-1912, expansion, division nad reunion 1820-1965; and the young republic 1790-1840. The objectives of this course include theories and issues in history, economics and political development, basis of government, decisions and rights, opportunities, struggles and roots.
