Occupational Child Care is an elective year long, 2 credit course designed for 11-12 grade students. Child Development is naturally helpful for students to have taken but is not required. This course prepares students for careers working with children. It is also beneficial for students who will eventually be parents to understand the developmental and educational process of their children. This course will help students identify career paths in child related fields, analyze developmentally appropriate practices, understand how to set up a safe and healthy environment, develop appropriate guidance and teaching techniques, and how to maintain professionalism. This course is based on the Child Development Associate certification through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
